Dissolving In Powerlessness

"In whatever kind of a “race” life may be, I have very abruptly become a finalist."

" In the war against Thanatos, if we must term it a war, the immediate loss of Eros is a huge initial sacrifice."

Population vs Longitude/Latitude

Harvard PhD student Bill Rankin made these maps. They display population graphically, by latitude, then by longitude. Not particularly groundbreaking but you've never seen it before so click the link.

What if historical events and/or people had facebooks?

This would happen.

This is a hilarious must-read. Good job Cool Material and Wylo.

Vadalism vs. Street-art

I think this video shows the difference between Vandalism, Graffiti, and Street-Art pretty clearly.

Global Warming!

(BoingBoing)
An old oil company add from 1963 that states they can melt 7 millions tons of glacier a day. Woohoo

2010: Not a Space Anything

This is a video of a shuttle booster falling to Earth. It's supercool. Stuff starts to happen around 1:50ish.

Similarly, sorting algorithms sound like the soundtrack to 2001: A Space Odyssey

Lower Merion Webcam Spying Case

Well the case was resolved, and the school district is not guilty. Either this is a load of hogwash or I hate sensationalist media. Maybe both. Alternatively, one thing I love is my right to privacy.

Voyager 1 + 2

I would just like to mention how absolutely ridiculous the Voyager missions are, and how you can't comprehend how far they are from Earth. It's insane. Also, their chance of hitting anything bigger than a molecule in the next few hundred thousand years is approximately the smallest number you can think of out of the biggest number you can think of.

Also interesting is the Pioneer Plaque, which, do you seriously think anything that finds the plaque would be able to decipher it? Do you want to give a civilization that has the ability to discover the plaque (Thousands of years ahead of us) our exact location? Think about it.

Acronyms that Surreptitiously Suck

Interesting article stolen from Mental Floss by CNN and riddled with MF links. A funny read. At first skim I thought it was going to be about Mental Floss' acronym, MF (Mother F*cker). Turns out it wasn't. Oh well.

P.S. The title is the link. WHAT? Crazy I know.
